MY TASKS —
ITERATION FEEDBACK
Explaining my design decisions with research & user insights.
For every iteration created by the production team, I would provide feedback along with the rationale behind each design choice, which enabled the production team to make informed adjustments and enhance the overall user experience.
EDIT STORYBOARD
Adapted the storyboard and video script to fit the appropriate audience.
I edited scripts and storyboards to ensure cultural sensitivity, relevance, and alignment with the values of target demographics. I ensured that the final product was inclusive, engaging, and respectful, ultimately enhancing its global appeal and effectiveness.
TRANSLATE MEDIA FROM KOREAN TO ENGLISH
Focused on capturing the natural flow and tone of spoken language.
I concentrated on capturing the natural flow and tone of Korean and English in video content, ensuring that dialogue felt authentic and conversational. By prioritizing natural speech patterns, I helped create content that felt more relatable and engaging for the audience.
NEW THINGS I GOT TO EXPERIENCE —
GOING ON SET 🎬 🎥
Creating friendships outside my field.
I got to work alongside actors, directors, and media producers for Samsung. Going on set was one of my favorite memories from that summer, and I was able to gain a deeper understanding of collaborative creativity and the importance of user-centric design in media production.
MEDIA PRODUCTION 🎞️ 🪄
From raw footage to TV commercials.
I had the unique opportunity to collaborate with professionals involved in the end-to-end creation of media and commercials. Witnessing the entire process from storyboarding to filming, editing, and finally seeing the production on TV was an amazing experience.
MY BIGGEST CHALLENGES —
CULTURE
Work culture is extremely different in Korea.
Korea's work culture is known to have a lot of emphasis on hierarchy, respect for authority, and hard dedication to work. I was really nervous going in, but my managers were extremely understanding and gave me a lot of space and time to adjust and make mistakes.
UNFAMILIARITY
I had no previous experience in media.
I took on new experiences outside my area of expertise, which left me feeling uncertain and out of my depth. However, I realized that these challenges were opportunities for growth which not only enhanced my skills, but also enabled me to adapt in diverse environments.
BEING THE ONLY INTERN
I was the only intern and female in office.
The first day of work, I was extremely intimidated by the older and skilled people. However, they created such a warm and welcoming environment where I was able to ask a lot of questions. This supportive atmosphere helped me integrate into the team and gain confidence in my abilities.
REFLECTION —
MY TIME IN SUWON, KOREA
I have never worked in Korea before, so I was extremely nervous going in. However, on the first day, all my coworkers were so welcoming and made sure I was well-fed. In Korean culture, food plays a significant role in hospitality and building relationships. This warm welcome immediately relieved my concerns and made it easier to talk to them and ask questions. They asked me a lot about my life in the U.S. and made me feel appreciated. I got to explore the city after work and on weekends — I even picked up a new hobby at an archery café nearby. I learned so much about the working environment and enjoyed all the new experiences and relationships I built.
